The photographs were taken during my stay in Kabul. Born in Germany, with roots in Afghanistan, the media shaped a one-sided and aggressive image of this country. My research ended up either with soldiers dressed in camouflage, heavily armed, or photographs from the 60s that melancholically portray a freedom long gone. In 2019, the opportunity arose for me to travel to Kabul and search for answers. These could not have been more ambivalent. Violence, destruction, poverty and fear went arm in arm with beauty, innocence, new beginnings and the banal everyday life.
